A Personal Evolution

I’m learning to embrace this season of life. I’m not quite retired, but have long since given up climbing the ladder that exists in my day job. And I will even say goodbye to that in a year or two. Similarly, I’ve left behind many life endeavors that were important to me in my younger years. I have an undergraduate degree in music that I don’t use anymore. An electronic keyboard, once a prominent fixture in my living room, now resides in a bedroom closet, all but forgotten. And socially, well, I just don’t get around much anymore, as the song goes.

In the mid-2000’s, I bought a little Sony compact camera. My two boys were getting older and I wanted to capture those memories before they were gone forever. Eventually, I bought a bigger camera and started photographing area landscapes as well as local high school seniors. I’ve recently added sports and live events to that repertoire.

Photography consumes much of my time away from my day job. I usually have a camera with me wherever I go. Sometimes the big camera with the big lenses, other times just the little one that fits in a day pack.

Wandered Inland

I was born on the Oregon Coast and spent much of my growing-up years in the Willamette Valley. When I was 15, we moved to Eastern Oregon. That was over four decades ago. Except for my time in college, I’ve remained a resident of this area ever since. My social media profiles introduce me as a “Coastal native who wandered inland.” And in some ways, that describes my life.

But Tolkien once wrote that “Not all who wander are lost.” I want to document—in words and in pictures—where I go and what I experience along the way. And that’s the purpose of my little site here. If you’re a photographer, I’ll share gear and tech tidbits as I go. And if you’re a friend or family member, I’ll keep this personal.
